"Belgium's particular situation regarding the use of the frozen Russian assets is undeniable and must be addressed in such a way that all European states bear the same risk."

Background:
- On 3 December, the European Commission unveiled two decisions aimed at meeting Ukraine's financial needs for 2026-2027: a "reparations loan" based on frozen Russian assets and joint EU borrowing on external markets.
- On the same day, even before the new proposal was announced by the European Commission, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot stated that it is absolutely unacceptable.
