Ukraine's representative to UN addressing Russia: Ukraine is not trading its sovereignty or territory

Andrii Melnyk, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has stated that Ukraine is not trading its territory or sovereignty.

Quote: "We are not at a Christmas bazaar. We are not at the infamous Cherkizovsky market. Russia wants Ukraine to capitulate as we just heard. But my reply to you would be: You will get just a hole of a bagel – not Ukraine!"

Details: The UN Security Council session took place on Tuesday 9 December. It focused on the intensification of attacks on civilians and infrastructure in Ukraine by Russian forces.

Background:

• A report published by the UN Human Rights Office noted a significant rise in civilian casualties in Ukraine between June and November 2025.
