Trump says Russia holds stronger negotiating position on ending war in Ukraine
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russia is in a stronger negotiating position on ending the war in Ukraine.
Source: Trump in an interview with Politico, a Brussels-based politics and policy news organisation, as reported by European Pravda
Quote: "It's a war that should've never happened. Frankly, it wouldn't have happened if I were president. And it didn't happen for four years. I watched that taking place and I said 'Wow, they're gonna cause some problems here', and it's started. It could've evolved into World War III, frankly."
Details: Trump said that Russia's negotiating position appears stronger because "it's a much bigger country".
He added that the war launched by Russia against Ukraine is "a big problem for Europe", arguing that European countries are not handling it well.
Trump once again claimed that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not read his "peace plan", saying, "It would be nice if he would read it."
Quote: "It would be nice if he would read it. A lot of people are dying, so it would be good if he'd read it. His people loved the proposal, they really liked it. His lieutenants, his top people, they liked it. But they said he hasn't read it yet. I think he should find time to read it."
Background:
- Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said he will brief Zelenskyy on the details of the meetings with the US delegation in Miami.
- Zelenskyy said earlier that national security advisers from Ukraine and European countries will continue work on the latest version of the "peace plan" and aim to complete it on 9 December.
- The Ukrainian leader also revealed that European security guarantees for Ukraine are effectively ready.
