Search intensifies for driver who fled fatal hit-and-run
ST. LOUIS - A family is in mourning after a 20-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.
Days after Tori Dunn's passing, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) is still searching for the man who they allege is responsible for the tragic event.
SLMPD identified Banditoe Farmer, 37, as their person of interest, claiming that he struck and killed Dunn just after 1 a.m. in the 2500 block of North Grand on Aug. 16.
Officers reported that Dunn abandoned his vehicle, an Infinity QX70, at a nearby gas station in the 3700 block of North Grand and fled the scene on foot with a gun.
Balloons now sit at the site where Dunn was hit, and people in the area say speeding remains an issue. One business that is near the scene told FOX 2 they've taken measures to protect themselves.
“The problem with the speeding is they are only thinking of themselves right now," said Paul Townsend, a worker at Mother's Best Fried Fish. "They are not thinking about the cars that they may tear up, the children that they may kill and, unfortunately, the person that they just hit and killed! It’s never their thoughts of who they might kill. They are only trying to get where they are going or show off whatever they are trying to show off.”
Townsend said that Mother's Best Fried Fish has placed cinder blocks to prevent reckless drivers from slamming into the building.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477). Police urge residents that if they see Farmer, to not approach him, as he's considered armed and dangerous.
