Maher: Larry David op-ed 'insulting to 6 million dead Jews'

Comedian Bill Maher knocked "Seinfeld" creator Larry David over a satirical op-ed in The New York Times describing a dinner with Adolf Hitler this week.

David's essay was widely seen as a spoof on Maher's commentary about a recent dinner he had with President Trump, whom he described as much different in person than the figure most Americans see on television or through his Truth Social account.

"I must say, you know — come on, man, Hitler? Nazis? Nobody has been harder about and more prescient, I must say, about Donald Trump than me," Maher said on the "Piers Morgan Uncensored" podcast, responding to the op-ed. "I don’t need to be lectured on who Donald Trump is."

"Just the fact that I met him in person didn’t change that. And the fact I reported honestly is not a sin either," he continued in the remarks highlighted by Mediaite. "But you know, to use the Hitler thing, first of all, I just think it’s kind of insulting to 6 million dead Jews. You know, like, that should kind of be in its own place in history."

In his piece headlined “My Dinner with Adolf," David, who is Jewish, wrote “here I was, prepared to meet Hitler, the one I’d seen and heard — the public Hitler."

"This private Hitler was a completely different animal," the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" creator continued. "And oddly enough, this one seemed more authentic, like this was the real Hitler. The whole thing had my head spinning.”

Maher, who was raised Catholic, has been frequently critical of Trump for years and says he remains close friends with David, noting the episode "wasn't my favorite moment of our friendship."

"But, you know, look, I don’t want to get too much into that," he said. "But I think the minute you play the Hitler card, you’ve lost the argument."
