32 Drivers cited at Chula Vista DUI checkpoint, police report
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A total of 32 drivers received citations at a DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista on Saturday night, authorities said.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, officers conducted the roadblock in the 600 block of Palomar Street from 5:30 p.m. to midnight.
A total of 1,560 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint and 743 vehicles were screened by officers. Authorities said three motorists conducted field sobriety tests, though none of them were arrested for driving under the influence.
However, 23 drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, and another nine were issued citations for reasons not provided. Additionally, three vehicle were impounded during the checkpoint.
"DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes," the police department noted in a press release. "The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads."
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
