2 women arrested for sunglasses thefts in St. Charles
ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Two women were arrested earlier this week for running a confidence scam to steal several pairs of designer sunglasses from a store in St. Charles.
According to probable cause statements from the St. Charles Police Department, the thefts happened on Sept. 19. The name of the targeted business was not provided.
Police said Markita Fisher and Yolanda McCoy entered the store with a small child. McCoy and the child approached the counter while Fisher walked around the store.
McCoy allegedly distracted the manager with conversation while Fisher took approximately 15 pairs of high-value sunglasses from brand names Louis Vuitton and Gucci, among others.
Police said McCoy and the child eventually left the store and Fisher ran out a short time afterward. They entered a vehicle and drove off. The store manager took photos of the vehicle and shared them with police.
On Sept. 29, police were called back to the business and observed the suspects’ vehicle parked in the lot. Officers looked inside the car and saw clothing with the tags still on them, with several large shopping bags and candles on the rear seat and floorboards. Police also found tools and magnets used to disable the magnetic sensors on clothing.
Police eventually confirmed both women were the ones in the store at the time the sunglasses were stolen.
The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged both Fisher and McCoy with stealing – $750 or more. Fisher posted bond on Oct. 1. McCoy was released after a warrrant was withdrawn and refiled. Fisher is due back in court on Oct. 15. Online records do not say when McCoy is due in court.
