Zelenskyy: Ukrainian soldiers hold off force of 64,000 Russians in Kursk Oblast

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have been holding off 64,000 Russian troops on the Kursk front. 

Source: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while speaking to journalists on Friday evening, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.  

Quote: "We are resisting a large number of troops, 64,000 Russians on the Kursk front, 64,000 of their soldiers. That is a severe task force that could spread here and attack us from other fronts along the entire line of contact. That's why the guys there are just incredible."

Details: Zelenskyy said that Russian forces "really want to completely force us out of Kursk Oblast" before one of the "symbolic" dates.

Quote: "We are positioned on the territory of Kursk Oblast and, by the way, our presence [in Russia] is not only there. Obviously, they want to do everything they possibly can. Obviously, they have symbolic dates; there are symbolic dates for them next month when they want to show certain winning steps, but as of now, we are in control of the situation. We are currently there and that is very important to us."

Details: Zelenskyy also emphasised that "there is no encirclement" of the Ukrainian task force in Kursk Oblast. 

Background: In the middle of March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asserted that Ukraine's defence forces had achieved the Kursk operation's principal objective of drawing Russian soldiers away from the cities of Pokrovsk and Sumy and the Kharkiv front.
