Zelenskyy reports on constructive discussion with Trump team on security guarantees

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he spoke today with the US team about security guarantees for Ukraine.

Details: Zelenskyy said the discussion was "constructive and in-depth". He stressed that security guarantees are one of the most important issues for all further steps.

We have already got the negative experience of the Budapest Memorandum. Everyone remembers this, as well as the occasions when Russia repeatedly violated all its other commitments. That is why it is essential that this document on security guarantees provides concrete answers to what concerns Ukrainians the most: what actions partners will take if Russia decides to launch its aggression again."

More details: Zelenskyy said that it was agreed that the teams will work actively to ensure there will be a concrete understanding of security guarantees in the near future.

Background:

On Thursday 11 December, Zelenskyy said that the United States' "compromise vision" regarding control over Donbas is to create a free economic zone there.
He also said the US has not set a strict deadline by which the US president wants to see an agreement to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Senior US officials and representatives of Ukraine, France, Germany and the UK will meet in Paris on Saturday 13 December to discuss President Trump's peace plan.
