Quote: "Now Putin himself says that he is finally ready for real meetings. We have pushed him a little towards this, and we have long been ready for such meetings ourselves – now a format must be found. This war must be ended, and security must be guaranteed reliably."
Background:
- Putin said at a briefing on 9 May that if Zelenskyy wants a meeting, he can come to Moscow.
- "We could also meet in a third country, but only once final agreements have been reached on a peace treaty, which must be designed for a long-term historical perspective [...]. That must be the final point," the Russian ruler said.
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has previously stated that Kyiv will agree to any venue for a potential Zelenskyy-Putin meeting except Russia or Belarus.
