Details: In the letter, Zelenskyy noted that on the night of 23-24 May, Russia launched a particularly brutal large-scale strike on Ukraine.

He pointed out that Russia used 54 cruise missiles, 30 ballistic missiles, 3 Tsirkon hypersonic cruise missiles and 2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles.

Quote: "Russia also launched intermediate-range Oreshnik ballistic missiles – one struck the Kyiv region, while another, reportedly, fell in temporarily occupied territory in Ukraine's Donetsk region."

More details: Zelenskyy also mentioned Russia's use of about 600 attack drones, including Shahed-type drones, which Iran uses against Gulf states.

Quote: "This is bigger beyond Ukraine. It is an important lesson for the security of the entire Euro-Atlantic community and for America's allies around the world, who could one day face threats from Russia's partners and proxies."

More details: In this context, Zelenskyy referred to Ukraine's worsening shortage of air defence systems.

He said Ukraine "depends almost entirely on supplies from the United States" for protection against Russian ballistic missiles.

Earlier, Zelenskyy publicly stated that the ongoing war in the Middle East has led to a severe shortage of supplies of interceptors for Patriot air defence systems, which protect Ukrainian skies.

Background: Analysts from monitoring channels and open-source intelligence specialists reported that Russia launched two Oreshnik missiles during its large-scale attack on Ukraine on the night of 23-24 May. The first, which was reported by Ukraine's Air Force, was detected near the city of Bila Tserkva in Kyiv Oblast, where garages sustained damage. The second is likely to have fallen in temporarily occupied territory in Donetsk Oblast. The Ukrainian military has not officially confirmed reports about the second Oreshnik missile.
