Zelenskyy: Intelligence warnings of large-scale Russian strike remain in effect
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that intelligence warnings regarding Russian strikes remain in force and that the Russians are preparing for a new large-scale attack against Ukraine.
Source: Zelenskyy in his evening address on 1 June
Quote: "The intelligence warnings regarding Russian strikes remain in effect. A large-scale strike may happen – they have prepared it. Our defenders of the sky are ready 24/7, to the extent possible with the supplies currently available.
And one more thing. There is movement towards exchanges. We are working to ensure that another stage takes place in the near future. We have also agreed with our partners in Europe on additional communication – there will be meetings, and there will be results."
Details: Zelenskyy also received reports on combat operations during a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
Quote: "Now the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the General Staff and the team of the President's Office must all look at how to further strengthen the programmes that are already working to reinforce the brigades.
Direct funding for combat brigades, the fair distribution of personnel and conducting basic general military training within brigades – each of these elements has worked well, and we need to look at the resources available to strengthen all this further."
Background:
- Russian media reported that Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, said Russia did not strike Kyiv over the weekend as part of a "Trinity truce".
- Ushakov said the proposal was passed to US special envoy Steve Witkoff, who then conveyed it to President Donald Trump. It applied only to long-range strikes and not to the front line.
- Dmytro Lytvyn, an adviser to Zelenskyy, denied reports that Russia had postponed a strike on Ukrainian oblasts.
- Andrii Yusov, Deputy Head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, said Russia's show of readiness to launch a large-scale strike on Ukraine followed by the announcement of a "truce" is a form of psychological pressure.
