Details: Zelenskyy is in Brussels, where a summit of EU heads of state and government will take place on 18-19 June. Commenting on Ukraine's progress towards EU membership, he thanked all EU countries for opening the first cluster.
"This is a serious step forward for us. We are not stopping. We hope that in the coming weeks, months – preferably weeks – we will definitely open the other five clusters so that all six clusters are opened and pave the way for our future EU membership. We will work towards this," the president said.
Background:
- As reported by European Pravda, the Council of the EU has begun technical preparations for opening clusters 2-6 for Ukraine and Moldova.
- Meanwhile, Ukraine's plan to open all clusters in the EU accession negotiations in July 2026 may not be realised due to a lack of time for the necessary negotiations and coordination.
- EU member states have already informally agreed on 14 July as the date for the opening of the five remaining clusters in Ukraine's accession negotiations.
