Young child hospitalized after drowning incident in North County
VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A young child was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital Monday after a drowning incident in a dunk tank in Vista, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 1:29 p.m. at a church event in the 740 block of Avenue De Benito Juarez, according to the Vista Fire Department.
Authorities say the child somehow ended up in a dunk tank, prompting the father to pull the child out of it and begin compressions on them.
First responders provided medical support and the child was taken to a hospital.
Their status is unknown at this time.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains drowning can either be a "fatal drowning" when someone dies and "nonfatal drowning" when a person survives a drowning incident.
