Yadier Molina joins St. Louis Cardinals as guest coach this weekend
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Cardinals legend Yadier Molina will be in uniform, guest coaching alongside Oliver Marmol starting tonight and for two games against the Chicago Cubs this weekend.
According to the Post Dispatch, Yadi will be in town for an event, and manager Oli Marmol saw it as an opportunity to have him back in the dugout, inviting him to join them.
Molina, who retired after the 2022 season, will be marking his first appearance in a Cardinals uniform since his retirement.
This is not the first time Marmol has approached Molina about taking a spot in the dugout. During Molina's 2023 visit to Busch Stadium for the end of Adam Wainwright’s career, Marmol brought up the idea of having the 10-time all star join the coaching staff.
At the time, Molina declined due to the time commitment and wanting to focus on family, but he began working in the front office as Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023.
Molina has managed winter ball teams in Puerto Rico and Venezuela and will manage Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
Molina's presence in the dugout will offer some of the players—especially the rookies—an opportunity to learn from one of the game’s all-time greats, while fans will get to see one of their favorites back in action.
