Wright City man fraudulently obtains over $6K in SNAP benefits: Police

WARREN COUNTY, Mo. -- A man from Wright City, Missouri, has been charged with allegedly fraudulently obtaining over $6,600 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

According to court documents, Jimmy Erwin, 49, failed to declare his felony drug conviction to the Family Support Division when applying for SNAP benefits between February 2021 and November 2024.

From February 2021 to July 2021, Erwin allegedly submitted an application for food stamp benefits and did not declare his drug conviction, and as a result, he received $1,604 in benefits.

Between October 2022 and November 2024, Erwin signed one application and submitted a recorded interview for SNAP benefits in which he selected "No" for a question regarding a federal or state felony related to possession, use, or distribution of a controlled substance.

As a result of Erwin's applications, he received an additional $5,087 in SNAP benefits he was not eligible for. In total, he received $6,691 for the public assistance benefits.

Erwin has been charged with unlawfully receiving public assistance benefits valued at $750 or more and stealing $750 or more. He received a notice to appear in court on Sept. 19.
