Work on Oceanside Transit Center pedestrian crossing project underway
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A five-month-long construction project meant to improve efficiency and safety for pedestrians has begun at the Oceanside Transit Center (OTC).
According to the North County Transit District (NCTD), upon its completion, the $2.6 million project will reduce the time it takes for people to walk from the OTC parking lot to the COASTER platform.
It will also improve safety measures at the transit center with the addition of crossing warning devices and pedestrian gates, NCTD stated.
The construction work kicked off Monday and is expected to last until December. Most of the work will be done between 9 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to minimize any disruptions to the SPRINTER service, per NCTD.
Occasional daytime work will happen Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The district advises people who live or are passing through the area to be prepared for bright lights and loud noises due to construction equipment until the project is completed.
More information about the pedestrian crossing extension project can be found on the NCTD website.
