Woman pushing shopping cart killed in Bay Park hit-and-run
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 50-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision in the Bay Park neighborhood early Friday morning, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The incident occurred in the 3000 block of Morena Boulevard, where the woman was pushing a shopping cart in one of the northbound traffic lanes. She was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. Police say the driver fled the scene and has not been identified.
There were no known witnesses to the collision, and authorities currently have no description of the suspect vehicle or driver.
An uninvolved passerby discovered the woman lying unconscious in the street and called 911. She had sustained open fractures to both of her shins and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
SDPD's Traffic Division is actively investigating the fatal hit-and-run and is asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. Tips can remain anonymous.
As of 6:45 a.m., Morena Boulevard remained closed between McGraw and Ticonderoga streets due to the ongoing investigation. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes.
