Woman hospitalized overnight after being shot by officer on I-70

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A woman was hospitalized early Tuesday morning after being shot by a police officer on Interstate 70 in Earth City.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound I-70, near the the Blanchette Bridge.

The incident started after police received a call for a woman with a gun, who was believed to be a threat to herself. At some point, police say the woman pointed a gun at one of the responding officers, prompting the officer to fire his weapon and grazing the woman.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after the shooting, suffering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. No officers were injured during the shooting.

Eastbound I-70 was shut down for an extended period of time after the shooting, police said. The highway has since been reopened.
