Will Sam Page run for St. Louis County Executive again? Here's what he said
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - St. Louis County Executive Sam Page, recently facing legal scrutiny and increased competition for his seat, answered two questions Wednesday about his future in public office.
Last month, a grand jury indicted Page on two counts of committing Class Four election offenses, one count of stealing $25,000 or more, and one count of stealing $750 or more. The indictment stems from allegations that Page used public funds on a flyer opposing Proposition B, a county ballot measure last April.
Since then, two candidates have entered the 2026 primary race for county executive: Missouri State Sen. Brian Williams, a Democrat challenging Page within his party, and St. Louis County Councilman Dennis Hancock, a Republican.
On Wednesday, Page first spoke at a news conference about RECA application resources for St. Louis County. Near the end of the news conference, he responded to two question from FOX 2's Andy Banker regarding his future as St. Louis County Executive.
Question: "Can I ask you a question about your future political aspirations? Do you plan to run again [for St. Louis County Executive]?"
Page: "Well, first of all, I won't be making any announcements - as I always do - about my plans for the next election cycle until the end of the year before. I am always prepared, but I'll make a formal announcement when we're closer to the election. Right now, I'm going to do the work of running county government. There is a lot of work to do."
Question: Do you have any response to people who say you should step aside [over the indictment]?
Page: "I'm not going to answer any questions [on that]. I understand you have a job to do and you have to ask these questions. You also have to understand that this isn't the place for that, and there will be a time and a place, but it's not right now. But right now, I'm going to do the work of running the county. I don't think I did anything wrong. And we'll cooperate with this investigation. But there's a lot of work to do in St. Louis County, and I'm going to keep doing it."
Page has served as the St. Louis County Executive since April 29, 2019, taking office after the resignation of his predecessor, Steve Stenger.
