Waves of rain and storms through much of the week
A few lingering showers are ongoing this morning across southeastern Missouri. Otherwise, we'll see a dry, but mostly cloudy start to the day.
Temperatures on Sunday will climb into the mid 80s. Later this afternoon and evening we'll see rain chances increasing as storms develop just west of the region and gradually track east-northeastward across our area. I expect rain and thunder to become widespread into the overnight hours.
There will be a small window of opportunity this evening for a few of the storms to become stronger, producing gusty winds. We will still have some areas of rain around through the Monday morning hours but widespread activity will gradually shift east of the viewing area. For Monday afternoon, there will remain a slight chance of a few spotty showers or storms. Temperatures will only be near 80.
We'll continue to see more ripples of energy moving through our region keeping our weather pattern unsettled through much of the week. As an area of low pressure becomes cut off from the jet stream this will bring increased rain chances back for Tuesday and Tuesday night. We'll see lingering showers from this feature for Wednesday and Thursday before it clears the region in time for the weekend.
Rain totals over the course of the week will be beneficial to the drought situation. Temperatures over the week will stay cooler thanks to clouds and rain, staying in the 70s.
