Details: The senator asserted that the United States will respond to this request from the Ukrainian president.
"America will respond positively to this request. We have done it in the past and must do it again in the future, because this is about saving lives. When we saw the destroyed shopping centre, the destroyed residential building, it became clear that Putin is deliberately targeting women, children and other civilians," Blumenthal said.
According to him, "Americans, including Congress and the administration, must support these efforts" by Zelenskyy.
"The letter, let me say, was written very eloquently and skilfully – in its address and gratitude to Americans for what we have already done," the senator stressed.
Background:
- In his letter to Trump and members of Congress, Zelenskyy referred to the deepening shortfall of air defence systems in Ukraine.
- He said Ukraine "relies almost exclusively on the United States" for protection against Russian ballistic missiles.
- He also mentioned Russia's use of Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles to attack Ukraine on the night of 23-24 May.
