U.S. Postal Service raises funds for breast cancer research with special stamp
(FOX 5/KUSI) -- In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the U.S. Postal Service is showing its support by reminding patrons of a special stamp it offers to help raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
The Breast Cancer Research Stamp, a semipostal stamp initially released in 1998, will be sold year-round, with a percentage of the proceeds going towards breast cancer research.
The 90-cent, self-adhesive stamp is sold in sheets of 20, with each stamp equivalent to the First-Class one-ounce postage rate. The commemorative stamp is available at Post Offices nationwide and can also be purchased online.

Since its unveiling in 1998, more than 1.1 billion Breast Cancer Research Stamps have been sold, raising over $98 million to support the fight against the disease. Seventy percent of the proceeds go to the National Institutes of Health, while 30 percent is given to the medical research team at the Department of Defense.
The stamp was the first semipostal stamp ever released and is authorized to be sold through the year 2027.
The U.S. Postal Service also offers three other semipostal fundraising stamps, including the Save Vanishing Species Stamp, the Alzheimer's Stamp and the Healing PTSD Stamp, all of which help raise money for their specific cause.
