US defense secretary: We will find a way to provide assistance to Ukraine
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that the United States will find a way to continue supporting Ukraine in defending itself against Russian threats.

Details: Journalists asked Hegseth about a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concerning shortages of air defence systems amid intensified Russian attacks.
The Pentagon chief responded that the US is looking for ways to assist Ukraine wherever possible.
Quote: "We're changing the way we make all those types of important munitions to ensure that our companies are delivering not just a little bit more, but a lot, a bit more across the spectrum; [...] where we can help Ukraine, we have, where we can enable Europe to do more, we have."
Details: Hegseth also praised European allies for increasing their support for Ukraine.
Quote: "I'm encouraged by the European commitment. If you look at the amount of money that's been spent, Europe has stepped up, and Ukraine has been just as, if not more, effective in the process. So we want them to be able to defend, and we'll find a way to make sure we can help them do that."
Background:
- In a letter to Trump and members of Congress, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine "relies almost exclusively on the US" for protection against Russian ballistic missiles.
- He also reported that during a large-scale attack on 24 May, Russia used two Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missiles.
- Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal said that the US would respond to the Ukrainian president's letter regarding shortages of air defence capabilities.
