Details: Roman, who goes by the alias "Hulk", is a pilot from the Ukrainian Bulava (Mace) unit who shot down the Russian Shahed-type drones from 500 km away.
Quote: "This is the first time in the world that anyone has attempted to shoot down not one but two Shaheds over such a long distance from the operator to the launch point."
More details: Wild Hornets, Sting's manufacturer, said the Shahed-type loitering munitions had been successfully hit by interceptor drones from 500 km away thanks to Hornet Vision Ctrl technology. The company unveiled the system at the end of March this year and said it enables controlling interceptors from hundreds of kilometres away.
Quote: "Hornet Vision Ctrl underwent combat testing on the front line for several months and we have effective results from its use. We have already begun mass deployment of Hornet Vision Ctrl technology, and very soon a large number of kits will be sent to the front. This will make it possible for effective crews to control much larger areas of the front line: instead of 20 km, up to 100 km."
Background:
- In March 2026, the effectiveness of Ukraine's air defence increased. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence reported that during the first month of spring, 89.9% of Russian missiles and drones had been intercepted or jammed.
- In addition, the training centre operated by Serhii Prytula Foundation is launching a course for STING interceptor drone operators after signing a memorandum of cooperation with Wild Hornets.
