Ukrainian Parliament to set up group on referendum and elections

Oleksandr Korniienko, First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) and newly elected head of the Servant of the People party, has said he may head a parliamentary working group on referendum and elections, creation of which has been initiated by the head of the faction, Davyd Arakhamiia.

Quote: "There really is such an initiative to create a working group in the Verkhovna Rada. This has not happened yet. Davyd Arakhamiia has initiated this for the future. This is true. I will probably head this working group.

It will be very broad, with dozens of people: representatives of the Central Election Commission, representatives of all factions and groups, the relevant parliamentary committee, ministries and civil society organisations. We will share all the results of these discussions with the media. Of course, they will concern broad issues, including those which the president has put to members of parliament about the possibility and conditions for holding elections during martial law, which our American partners are asking us about."

Details: Korniienko has also said that his deputies in this future working group will be Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk and the head of the parliamentary committee on state governance, local self-government, regional development and urban planning, Olena Shuliak.
