Ukrainian foreign minister criticises former spokeswoman's claims about Zelenskyy
Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has criticised claims by former presidential press secretary Yuliia Mendel that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was supposedly ready to hand over Donbas to Russia in 2022, describing them as lies, manipulation and support for Russian narratives.

Quote: "All these lies and manipulations are directed against Ukraine's interests and in support of Russian demands and ultimatums.
It is vile when such individuals are willing to humiliate their own state and grovel before Russian propaganda for the sake of 'fame'. At the end of the day, this person isn't the first to join the club of minions serving Russian propaganda and narratives. But it is a one-way ticket."
Details: Sybiha also emphasised that he personally worked with Zelenskyy during the first few months of the full-scale war and believes the president played a decisive role in defending Ukraine, securing Western weapons, and advancing the country towards EU membership.
Quote: "No false accusations will change these facts. On the contrary, perhaps they only confirm them. And lovers of cheap fame are on the road to oblivion."
Background:
- Mendel claimed in an interview with controversial American journalist Tucker Carlson that Zelenskyy had been prepared to hand over Donbas to Russia in 2022 in order to end the war.
- The President's Office has categorically dismissed the claims, emphasising that Mendel had no access to government-level decision-making and no involvement in the negotiation process, and questioned the rationality of her statements.
- This is not the first questionable allegation from the former spokeswoman. Mendel has previously claimed that Andrii Yermak, former head of the President's Office, practises black magic, making visits to cemeteries and using "dead water" (water that was used to wash dead bodies). She described Yermak as "a very dangerous person" and said she feared for her life, but gave no details beyond references to her "experience" and "connections".
