Ukrainian defence minister names three priorities for coming months

Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has said the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine will focus in the coming months on changes to military recruitment, service, procurement and the provision of drones to brigades.

Details: Fedorov said the Defence Ministry is preparing its first projects to change the terms of recruitment and service in Ukraine's Armed Forces.

These include a new model of financial support, a contract system with fixed terms of service and a rotation framework, new approaches to staffing units and a reduction in the rate of soldiers going absent without leave.

Fedorov named procurement as the second area of focus. He said the Defence Ministry plans to move to tender procedures in defence procurement in the summer.

Quote: "We have already conducted the largest competitive procurement procedure for long-range 155-mm artillery rounds and achieved savings of more than 16%. The next step is to move drone procurement to tenders.

Our task is to build a transparent, competitive and fast procurement system without corruption risks."

More details: Fedorov also said the Defence Ministry is preparing anti-corruption changes in research and development work and state quality assurance.

The third area, he said, is the launch of a basic guaranteed minimum supply of drones for brigades. Fedorov said this is needed so that units understand the minimum amount of equipment they will be guaranteed to receive the following month for planning their work and operations.
