Two killed, three hospitalized in Chula Vista crash

(FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people died and three others were hospitalized after a crash between two vehicles in central Chula Vista on Monday evening.

Police said the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Telegraph Canyon Road and Apache Drive, just west of La Media Road.

The agency stated that its officers determined a car was traveling west on Telegraph Canyon Road when it collided with an SUV heading east on the same road, which was making a left turn onto Apache Drive.

The SUV overturned, trapping the four passengers inside. Fire crews had to extricate all four people from the vehicle, and the driver, a 75-year-old man, was pronounced dead soon after.

The SUV's three passengers were taken to a hospital, where one of them, a 76-year-old man, also died. The other two passengers remain stable, police said.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man from National City, was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the cause of the crash is still being investigated and that it does not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
