Two airports in San Diego to receive nearly $4M in funding
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – Nearly $4 million in federal funding will go to two San Diego airports: Montgomery-Gibbs Executive and Brown Field.
The two airports look to make much-needed infrastructure improvements from three Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants, the City of San Diego said in a news release Friday.
Two of the grants will go toward the design costs for the future rehabilitation of Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport’s secondary runway, taxiways and terminal apron, while the third grant will reimburse the consultant who is in the final design phases to rehabilitate the Brown Field Airport taxiways, according to the city.
“This federal funding is critical to addressing immediate infrastructure needs at both of the City’s airports, helping to prevent delays in project design and construction while ensuring our facilities remain in top condition,” said Economic Development Deputy Director and Chief of Airports Jorge Rubio, A.A.E. “As part of the national air transportation system we are committed to providing safe, reliable and modern infrastructure in a way that promotes long-term resilience.”
The city confirmed the grants will cover 95% of the design costs, while the other 5% will come from revenue the airports generate from business and other funding.
