Transportation Museum honors F/A-18 Super Hornet's legacy this fall

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – November will mark the 30th anniversary of the first flight of the locally-built F/A-18 Super Hornet. The National Museum of Transportation will celebrate the fighter jet’s legacy with a series of events this fall in the weeks leading up to the anniversary.

F/A-18 E-1, the first Super Hornet built, is a U.S. Navy carrier-capable, supersonic fighter, with improved range, payload, and endurance. It departed St. Louis Lambert International Airport for its inaugural flight on Nov. 29, 1995.

A decommissioned E-1 is on exhibit at the museum, on loan from the National Naval Aviation Museum.

The National Museum of Transportation will host book signings, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing days, pilot panels, and photo-ops, culminating with a special proclamation on Nov. 29 – the anniversary itself.
