Toddler, woman shot in St. Louis' Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood
ST. LOUIS - An investigation is underway after a toddler and a woman were shot Monday evening in St. Louis' Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.
The shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Clara Avenue.
Investigators say a 25-year-old woman and her daughter, a 1-year-old toddler, were inside a home when they were shot. The mother was reportedly cooking while she was shot.
According to a St. Louis police crime summary report, the father, who was not shot but located at the home, claims an unknown subject fired a weapon from outside into the residence.
The mother then responded to a gas station in the 5500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive to contact police about the shooting. It's unclear what else led up to this.
"Detectives are still working to determine the circumstances of the incident and the validity of these claims," said the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department in the crime summary report.
The 1-year-old is hospitalized in stable condition. The father was taken into custody on unrelated charges.
SLMPD says an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with relevant information in this case should contact SLMPD at 314-444-0001 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
