According to the Oceanside Police Department, the collision occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Douglas Drive and Mission Avenue. Investigators say a black Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling eastbound on Mission Avenue struck a black Volkswagen Beetle that was heading north on Douglas Drive.
The impact ejected both the 24-year-old male motorcyclist and his 23-year-old female passenger. The rider was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the passenger suffered moderate injuries.
The 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, an Oceanside resident, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital. Police say she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
While the investigation remains ongoing, officials say early findings suggest alcohol consumption may have played a role in the collision. The OPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and is leading the investigation.
