Thousands of lightning bolts streak across the San Diego County sky
(FOX 5/KUSI) — Monday's thunderstorms across Southern California sent thousands of lightning bolts arcing through the skies, with hundreds of them making contact with the ground.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said it was "quite an active day," with more than 10,000 lightning strikes recorded across San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
The NWS said that the lightning happened between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
In San Diego County, 5,025 bolts were recorded, and 262 cloud-to-ground strikes were recorded.
In Riverside County, the totals were 3,886 and 178, with San Bernardino County recording 1,163 and 148.

Despite all of the lightning activity in the area, mostly contained to inland areas, no strikes were recorded in Orange County, the NWS said.
The three weather stations that recorded the most amount of rain on Monday were Palm Canyon Creek (1.42 inches), Agua Caliente (1.17 inches) and Heart Bar (0.90 inches).
Tuesday's forecast includes more monsoon activity, the NWS said.
