This is Missouri's best 'family-friendly' restaurant, food writers say
SIKESTON, Mo. - Taking the family out to eat can be one of life's simple joys, until it comes time to pick the restaurant. Finding a place that satisfies kids and adults alike isn't always easy, but for some restaurants, it comes naturally.
A research team at LoveFood.com recently compiled a list naming the "best independent family-friendly restaurant" in every U.S. state. Their selections were based on reviews, awards, and accolades, in addition to the first-hand experience of their food-writing team.
According to LoveFood.com, the best family-friendly restaurant in Missouri is none other than Lambert's Cafe, which has two southern Missouri locations in the cities of Ozark and Sikeston.
Founded more than 80 years ago, Lambert's Cafe is known for its southern hospitality, adventurous atmosphere and hearty country-style meals.
Lambert's is perhaps most famous for its "throwed rolls" tradition, through which servers toss warm, fluffy yeast rolls across the dining room for hungry diners. Guests can also enjoy endless "pass-around sides," like fried potatoes, fired okra, macaroni and black-eyed peas.
Popular entrees include chicken-friend steak and chicken and dumplings. And inside the restaurants, walls are lined with vintage photos and personalized license plates, adding a vintage charm to the wholesome homestyle experience.
LoveFood.com offers the following review on Lambert's:
"What child wouldn’t enjoy a restaurant where rolls are thrown (or 'throwed') around the room? Small chain Lambert’s Cafe, which has another location in Silkeston, and a third in Foley, Alabama, opened in 1942 and is known as the 'home of throwed rolls' because waiting staff really do throw bread rolls to hungry (and willing) customers."
Lambert's is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily in both Sikeston (2305 East Malone Avenue) and Ozark (1800 W. State Highway). There is also a third location in Foley, Alabama.
