Teen sentenced for 2024 fatal DUI crash
WATERLOO, Ill. – Earlier this month, the teen driver responsible for a fatal DUI crash last September appeared in Monroe County Circuit Court for sentencing.
Trevor Stawizynski was sentenced on Sept. 3 to nine years in prison followed by two years of supervised release. He’d pleaded guilty in July to one count of aggravated DUI resulting in death. Two other charges were dismissed as part of his plea.
Stawizynski was 16 at the time of the crash. He’ll serve the start of his sentence in a juvenile facility until he turns 18, at which point, he may be transferred to a state prison.
Stawizynski was operating a vehicle under the influence when he crashed on the afternoon of Sept. 1, 2024, on Hanover Road near Illinois Highway 3. One of the passengers in the car, Crawford Bryant, was killed in the crash. Bryant was 15. He was one of four students involved in the high-speed crash.
Stawizynski remains the subject of a consolidated civil suit filed by the families of the crash victims.
