Teen killed, mother injured in overnight Alton crash
ALTON, Ill. - A teenager was killed and her mother was injured in a crash Friday evening in Alton, Illinois, according to the Alton Police Department.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road.
The Alton Police Department has identified the victim killed in the crash as 17-year-old Grace Bustos. Her mother, in the same vehicle, was hospitalized with injuries.
The Alton Police Department tells FOX 2 that the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash showed signs of impairment and has since been booked into jail.
“This is an absolute tragedy, and on behalf of the Alton Police Department, I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends who are grieving this unimaginable loss," said Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford. "Our thoughts and prayers are also with the students and staff of the Alton School District who knew Grace. We stand with the community during this difficult time.”
Formal charges have not been announced as of Saturday afternoon.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Team and the Madison County Coroner’s Office assisted the Alton Police Department with the crash.
