Teen carjacking suspect hospitalized after crash: Police
BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS Mo. – A police pursuit of a carjacking suspect ended in a crash late Sunday morning.
According to Mary Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis County Police Department, officers spotted a vehicle just after 11:45 a.m. that had been reported stolen earlier in a carjacking at a convenience store near Lilac Avenue and Interstate 270.
Officers said they put on their lights and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver sped off with police following.
The car crashed into a building in the 10000 block of Bellefontaine Road near Chambers Road, Schmitt said.
The driver, a 17-year-old male, was taken into custody and brought to the hospital, Schmitt said. His injuries were not life-threatening. Police said they recovered a weapon at the crash scene.
