Suspected DUI driver arrested in deadly Carlsbad crash

CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- One person was killed by a suspected DUI driver Saturday in Carlsbad, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. at the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Piraeus Street, the Carlsbad Police Department said in a news release.

Authorities say a Subaru crossover had collided with a Nissan pickup truck.

The driver of the Nissan was taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. Their identity has not been released at this time.

Philip Webb, 33, of Oceanside, was identified as the driver of the Subaru, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter. Webb will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, according to authorities.
