Support offered to Lakeside residents who lost homes in Coches fire

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The County of San Diego and AlertSanDiego have launched an online resource for fire victims who lost their homes and businesses or sustained damages in the Coches Fire.

The Coches Fire broke out on Sept. 8 in brush along Los Coches Road between two neighborhoods close to the I-8 freeway in Lakeside.

The fast-moving brush fire tore through the Monterey Lodge Mobile Home Park, destroying six mobile homes and damaging an unknown amount of surrounding structures. Firefighters were able to stop the spread at 5.3 acres.

Crews are still inspecting the area to try to get a grasp on the full extent of the damage. Two people were injured in the brush fire, one from burn injuries and one from smoke inhalation.

After the devastating fire, the County of San Diego put together a list of resources for those impacted by the Coches Fire like information for homeowners or businesses seeking property tax relief, record replacement copies and property deeds, permits for repairs or rebuilding, and food assistance, medical assistance, housing assistance, and information on other services.

The American Red Cross is also offering immediate financial assistance to residents that qualify, while the Salvation Army is offering assistance with clothing, diapers, beverages and more.

Team Rubicon can help residents clear trees or debris from their homes, and San Diego volunteer organizations offer help with cleaning products like N95 masks, Tyvek suits, Hygiene Kits, wildfire kits and more.

The full list of resources available can be found online at alertsandiego.org/CochesFireRecovery.
