ST. LOUIS - Nine people were shot in just one hour Sunday evening in St. Louis City, resulting in one death.

St. Louis Police Chief Robert Tracy discussed Sunday night's violence and other public safety topics at a news conference on Monday.

Four shootings happened between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Chief Tracy said.

The first shooting was the result of an argument. A 37-year-old woman was shot in her leg while a 53-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his head. The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of Hickory Lane in the Peabody–Darst–Webbe neighborhood.

Around 8:10 p.m., five men between the ages of 20 and 67 were shot near Cherokee Street and Nebraska Avenue. Officers found one victim at the scene and learned the other victims had been taken to two local hospitals. Chief Tracy said four of the victims were in stable condition, while a 33-year-old victim remains in critical condition.

The third shooting happened around 8:25 p.m. on the 3600 block of Hamilton Avenue in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound. Chief Tracy said the man was critically injured.

The fourth shooting occurred in the 4200 block of Cote Brilliante in The Ville neighborhood. Chief Tracy said the victim, Michael Durley, was found shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Durley was 31.

Homicide detectives do not believe the shootings are related, Tracy said.

The chief mentioned that two people were shot earlier in the day Sunday. One person was shot just before noon in the 4800 block of Bessie Avenue in the Penrose neighborhood. A woman was shot around 3:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Hodiamont Avenue in Wells-Goodfellow.
