Storm chances hang around first half of week, meteor shower nears peak
ST. LOUIS - Storms brought too much rain to some on Sunday and not much to other areas. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms through Thursday before rain chances decrease towards next weekend. The best chance of widespread rain looks to be on Tuesday.
A few showers on the northern edge of the St. Louis region as we wake up this Monday. A chance for isolated showers and storms will be around again this afternoon and early evening, with highs in the low 90s.
Although isolated, where they do hit, very heavy rain is possible, but those spots will be small.
Overnight is expected to be warm and muggy, with wake-up temperatures in the mid-70s. There will be a possibility of scattered showers and storms Tuesday morning, with that chance lingering through the day. The highs will once again be in the lower 90s.
More spot afternoon storms are possible on Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday and the weekend are expected to be hotter and drier.
The average summer temperature through yesterday has been 80F. That ties 2025 (so far) as the 25th warmest in the 152-year period of record through Aug.10.
There have been 32 day of 90+ temps and 49 days where the low temperature stayed at or above 70 this summer---that's tied for the ninth highest on record. So, the summer average temperature is being pushed higher more so because of the very warm nights.
The Perseid Meteor Shower will peak between Aug. 12 and 13. However, the bright moon and at least some cloud cover is likely to limit viewing somewhat in our area. The moon will be 84% full.
