Stolen Korean BBQ food truck returned

ST. LOUIS - A big yellow food truck that’s hard to miss disappeared from a St. Louis restaurant over the weekend. Now it’s back, but not without damage.

K-Bop STL, a popular Korean barbecue spot with two locations in the city, discovered early Saturday morning that its food truck had been stolen. Owner Yuduck Lee says he immediately called police after realizing it was gone from its Delmar Boulevard location.

The truck was supposed to serve customers at Nine Mile Garden in South County that day, but instead, the business spent the morning asking the community for help online. Posts quickly spread on social media, with people reporting sightings of the truck across the city.

By Sunday, police had recovered the truck. But Lee says it was left in rough shape, with a broken ignition and gear shifts, along with major damage under the hood and inside the vehicle. Repairs are expected to cost about $4,000, and insurance isn't chipping in.

Even missing just one weekend of business has hurt, Lee said, since the food truck accounts for roughly a quarter of K-Bop’s sales.

Still, he’s thankful for the community support that helped track it down and says customers can expect to see the truck back on the streets within the next three weeks.
