STL family’s home in ruins after pursued car crashes into it
ST. LOUIS - A late-night crash on Germania Avenue in south St. Louis has left a family shaken after a driver, pursued by police, crashed into their home, destroying their living room and totaling their cars.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Friday night when a driver, reportedly being pursued from Morganford, veered off the road and slammed into the family's living room.
The crash also pushed their vehicles into a neighbor's house, leaving the family to deal with significant damage.
Jeremy Blumenthal, a member of the family, said he spent the night boarding up the house so his family could stay inside.
“The bricks to the foundation came crumbling down on him in his bed. Room was destroyed, smoke everywhere. We thought the house blew up,” Blumenthal said.
Cherae Blackey, another family member, noted that this was the third time a car had hit a home on their block in recent years.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help repair their truck and replace the car they used to transport their 3-year-old son, who has autism, to therapy and school.
Trailnet, an organization advocating for safer streets, highlighted this crash as an example of why St. Louis needs lower speed limits.
The organization argues that reducing speed limits could prevent similar incidents in the future.
