STL County Police investigate fatal hit-and-run

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - St. Louis County Police have identified the victim of a deadly hit-and-run as Ciera Steele, 34, of the 9100 block of Mill Pass Lane in Edmundson.

Police say Steele was walking near West Florissant Avenue and Northport Hills Drive at approximately 2:37 am on Saturday. Police say she died from her injuries the next day.

Police have not determined the circumstances surrounding the crash. They initially responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash, but when they arrived, there were no vehicles on the scene.

Nate Usery was driving through the area on Tuesday. He believes too many drivers speed on West Florissant.  35 miles per hour is the speed limit in the area of Saturday’s crash.

“I’ve got daughters, granddaughters, a mother, and sisters,” he said. “We just need to respect each other a little bit more. Human life is very valuable.”

“Slow down,” said Jeffrey Combs, a third-generation tow truck operator. “Everybody’s in such a rush. We only have so much time on earth. Take your time.”

Anyone with information in the case is urged to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
