'Stella Shouting Contest' to return for Tennessee Williams Festival
ST. LOUIS - In celebration of its tenth anniversary season, the Tennessee Williams Festival St. Louis is set to host a loud yet humorous contest for the St. Louis region.
The Tennessee Williams Festival will be hosting a "Stella Shouting Contest," inspired by the infamous cry from actor Marlon Brando in the 1951 film, "A Streetcar Named Desire." In the scene, Brando stars as Stanley Kowalski and creates an iconic moment by yelling "Stella!" as a cry to his wife after a fight.
The free shouting contest is set to take place on Friday, August 8, at 5:30 p.m. inside the Grandel Theatre Courtyard, located at 3610 Grandel Square. The winner of the contest will receive two tickets to a performance of their choice, along with a framed and autographed photo of the cast of the play.
The contest is one of many events that are a part of the Tennessee Williams Festival, which runs from Aug. 7 to 17. The festival is an annual event honoring the work of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tennessee Williams.
Anyone interested in participating in the free event can enroll by contacting info@twstl.org or by signing up in person at the contest. For more information, click here.
