St. Louisans dream big amid powerball fever
MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. - On Labor Day, excitement runs high at 7-Eleven, as powerball fever takes over.
Players are shelling out just a few dollars in hopes of securing $1.1 billion. The jackpot has been growing since May 31, after no tickets matched the six winning numbers.
“What would I do with $1.10 billion? I would have to think about it first but I’m going to be extremely happy and bless my family,” said Damon Yokley, a customer.
Players tell FOX 2 they feel this holiday weekend is a perfect time to take a shot at winning.
“I would take the cash payment right now. I would share it between family and dear friends. Pay off bills. All the regular stuff! Buy a house,” said Gwinn, another customer hoping to win.
The odds are one in 292 million, but that’s not stopping dreamers. The cash option in tonight’s drawing is estimated at $498.4 million before taxes.
