St. Louis Symphony reopens $140M renovated Powell Hall Friday

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra is set to reopen Powell Hall as part of the new Jack C. Taylor Music Center this Friday, following a $140 million renovation project.

The reopening of Powell Hall marks the completion of a two-year project aimed at preserving the historic venue's acoustics and visual design while enhancing the experience for both audiences and artists.

Powell Hall, which opened in 1925 and has been the home of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra since 1968, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The renovation includes new seating, improved accessibility, and upgraded backstage areas with enhanced instrument storage and practice facilities.

A state-of-the-art recording studio has been added, along with a nearly 4,000-square-foot Education and Learning Center to support the orchestra's educational programs.

The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra will kick off its season with a concert in Forest Park on September 17, led by Music Director Stéphane Denève.

Concerts at the newly restored Powell Hall will begin with Opening Weekend from September 26 to 28. An open house is scheduled for November 8, allowing the public to explore the venue and enjoy performances.
