St. Louis sees record humidity with soaring July dew points

ST. LOUIS- If you noticed how high the humidity was this past July, you’re not the only one. The average dew point for July of 2025 was nearly 4-6 degrees above normal for the St. Louis area.

“That’s pretty abnormal usually you have peaks where you have several days three or four days with high humidity, High dew points but then usually it goes back closer to normal," said Jayson Gosselin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A very wet April-through-July period led to the increased evapotranspiration of the corn crop this summer.

"Not only locally, but if you look regionally, Missouri, Illinois and areas points south, a lot of times we had a southerly wind component so he had abnormal moisture being advected, or moved from south to north, moving into the area and not moving out," he said.

There were many stretches within the month of July that dew points never fell below 70 degrees—the longest being from July 12-31.

But if you thought this was bad, it’s been far more humid before.

“August 2023 was probably worse in terms of—we had two points over 80 several days in a row this time we kind of peaked around 80 but it was not too far off, and the thing that was different about the heat wave was that it was a little bit longer. We had 9 days with the heat index of at least 100,” Gosselin said.

That 9-day stretch fell from July 22-30. We did not come close to the record 15-day stretch in 1999.

This past month, however, was still noteworthy, making the top 10 list of humid weather.
