St. Louis embraces summer's end despite the hot weather

ST. LOUIS – On a hot Sunday in September, families and friends went outside to enjoy the warm weather at Tower Grove Park. Even though summer is almost over, St. Louis felt more like July this weekend.

Kids set up lemonade stands to help people stay cool. Two young boys, Westley and Fox, sold drinks to people walking and driving by.

“We’ve had people literally stop their cars to get lemonade,” they said. “It helps when it’s really hot and people don’t have water.”

At a picnic table nearby, a birthday party was happening. The kids had drinks like lemonade, Gatorade, sparkling water, and regular water to stay cool. One mom, Tiffany Halkitis, said it was much hotter than last year.

“We had the same party last year, but it was about 20 degrees cooler,” she said. “Still, the kids are having fun.”

Some people didn’t mind the heat at all. A group played kickball in the sun. “We thought it would feel more like fall,” said player Adam Drake. “But summer’s still hanging on.”

It was a hot day, but a fun one. People across St. Louis made the most of it with one of the final summer days before fall really begins.
